Botox is one of the most trusted & clinically tested procedures in the medical aesthetics industry. These cosmetic injections are used to combat many of the most common signs of aging, including fine lines, wrinkles, crows feet, and smile lines. Like any procedure, Botox injections aren’t a one size fits all solution. Not sure if you should book the Botox or pick another procedure? How Does Botox Work?
Botox injections contain the neurotoxin called onobotulinumtoxinA, which works to temporarily freeze the muscle tissue it is directly injected into. Although the procedure is minimally painful, patients can choose to use a topical numbing cream for injection site pain. The results of Botox reach their full effect between 2-6 days after injection and results typically last 2 months or longer. Side effects are extremely minimal, and typically only include slight bruising or swelling of the injection site. The treatment time is approximately 20 minutes.
What Type of Wrinkles Does Botox Help?
One of the main differences between Botox & filler injections is what type of wrinkles they address. While fillers work to fill in areas of the face and eliminate wrinkles that exist while the face is at rest, Botox addresses the lines that occur during certain facial movements such as smiling or squinting. Botox works to freeze the moving muscle that causes these wrinkles, whether it is in your forehead, under eye, mouth, or cheeks. With the right Botox injection technique, you will be able to see your same beautiful smile, but without the wrinkles!
What Else Can Botox Do?
Although Botox is best known for its anti-aging properties, it has a variety of purposes outside the medical aesthetics realm. Botox can be used to treat twitches, chronic migraines, excessive sweating, and even bladder dysfunction. The more clinical trials that are run on Botox, the more versatile it becomes as a medical tool!
